I love 5th St books! Always have but...management made a mistake when they decided to not organize books by basic genres. We were told the once mostly organized warehouse was too hard to maintain with the small staff, that I understand somewhat but it wasn't a good idea to undo the organized sections that did exist. Now everything is really looking for a needle in a haystack. It has hurt my frequency of visits because I just don't have time to dig through piles of romances, auto repair Manuel's, baby name books, Garfield collections, horror novels, how-to books, etc etc etc to find that William Gibson book I've been looking for. See what I mean? Great warehouse. Great location. Nice people. The end of organizing was just a bad idea though. Sorry guys. It's true.
I found the shop difficult to locate. It shares an entrance with a sports uniform and trophy store at the side of a large warehouse. Inside, you'll find yourself amongst many rows of shelving in a cordoned-off section of an active warehouse, complete with the sounds of machinery and forklifts in operation behind tall curtains.
The 3rd week of each month on Thursday ,Friday and Saturday their books are on sale for 35 cents. Which is a great deal. On the other days they are 99 cents. Cash only. The staff are great. It is one of the largest book warehouse I have ever seen.
I absolutely loved this store. I also absolutely love books and so does my three year old. She loved this store also and was able to sit and read while I perused and found books for myself. They have ever kind of book you may be looking for plus more of any kind of book. Great place if you love books and love to read. Kid friendly too, where can you go wrong? Great prices also. Well worth the time to look.
This place is strangely quaint inside, with a cozy reading area that I would certainly sit on a sofa within and read for a couple hours, if I found an enthralling title. Don't count on finding anything easily though, as there is little organization with many rows of bookcases sorted neither by topic, genre, or author. The selection is heavily biased towards Bible study, children's books, and popular fiction.
Obviously this is not your typical bookstore. If you come here looking for a specific book, then you might have a bad time. If you come here with a love for books and an hour to kill then you're gonna have the time of your life.
