I asked for the manager and met Mitch Joyner (Store Manager). Mitch also refused to return the switch, even though I had a receipt. Mitch was not very nice either and had a bit of an attitude.

I returned today with the receipt and the switch. The same cashier was at the return desk. She asked me if that was the same switch I tried to return on Saturday. I could have lied and said it was not. But since I’m a person of integrity I told the truth. Apparently telling the truth at Lowe’s is a bad call. She immediately caught an attitude with me and said she wouldn’t do it, even with a receipt.

I bought a few more a couple weeks ago, can’t remember if it was in The Durham Lowe’s, or the Mebane Store. As luck would not have it, one of the switches was bad.

Customer service was excellent. From the time I entered the store, until I left the store. I'll definitely be a repeat customer.

Saturday night I went in to the Mebane Store to exchange the switch. Didn’t want money, just another switch. I didn’t have my receipt so they asked for my license, so I gave it to them. When they scanned it, they said my license was blocked from returning items. Odd, I thought I had just returned something the day before with my license (in the middle of a kitchen project).

Couple of side notes. When I tried to get my license “unlocked” Saturday night I couldn’t because they are not available on the weekends. When I called today, there is a 2 day waiting period for a call back. Considering I probably returned only one or two items on my license in the last 13 years, I’m not sure why it’s “locked” to begin with.

Despite working against computer system malfunctions Craig worked to get my malfunctioning dryer replaced quickly and Andy went the extra mile (literally), coming back to work after going home for the night, to make sure my dryer was delivered.

Lowe's of Mebane has gone downhill very quickly. When we first moved here, we were delighted with the range of products and friendly, efficient service. Now the employees don't seem to want to help, even looking the other way when approached; many of the employees have no idea about the products; and there are almost always long lines at the cashiers. For us, it is more effective to drive a few more miles and go to Home Depot in Burlington where the product line is superior, the employees are knowledgeable about the products and where they are located, and they have self-service cashier terminals.

Over the past few months I’ve been transitioning all my light switches to “smart switches”. I’ve bought almost all of the switches from Lowe’s. Most online, some in the store. For the most part they have all worked, but a couple were bad right out of the box.

So let me tell you a little story.

This facility is very clean and the staff it's really friendly. They have almost every tool you can think of. I visit Lowe's almost every month.

Anyway, I told the cashier, I’m just gonna go buy a new one and return this one with the new receipt. Due to time constraints I ended up just leaving the store purchasing the new switch and some other items.

I filed a formal complaint with Lowe’s Corporate office and I’m waiting on a call back from Mitch’s boss.

I hope you’re happy Mitch, you lost a customer over a $40 switch. Even though this store is closer than Home Depot, I’ll drive the extra 10 miles just to not give you my business.

First time at this location and everyone is so nice and helpful. They still have some black Friday specials. I got few deals myself.
